It’s the end of February and by now I’m so sick of cold weather. I can’t wait for spring. This last week was stormy and snowy, and gray outside. Usually about this time of year I start to notice that I’m feeling down, and need a reset. I’ve been trying to move my body more by going to the gym and walking my Weimaraner Ernie more.
I started thinking, what else can I do to reset my mindset? I have tried Sound Healing in the past and have really enjoyed it. Sound Healing is the use of sounds, music and instruments (such as singing bowls and gongs) to induce a state of deep relaxation by promoting meditation.
Meditation has been studied and has been shown to help people manage stress, depression, anxiety even some PTSD symptoms. I have been practicing meditation on and off for years now. I seem to go through phases, where I get really into it, then fall off for awhile.

So what does all this mean? It means I needed a Girls’ Day Out to relax and reset with some healing sounds and meditation in a salt cave. So grab your most zen friend, or at least one who is fairly open-minded, and head out to Sandy, Utah.
First things first, I need some coffee. So we are headed out to Honeysuckle coffee Co, in Sandy. This place is so cute with crystal chandeliers and a homey vibe. They serve coffee (of course) and bakery items.
Next we are headed down the street to Synchronicities on the corner of 9400 S and 700 E in a strip mall.
Synchronicities is a crystal shop that rents out space to independant practitioners for things like sound healing, massage, reiki, card readings……and the like. They also have a Himalayan Salt cave which is a room that is dimly lit, the walls are blocks of himalayan salt and the floor is pink salt as fine as sand. It is a gorgeous space with wooden benches around the perimeter of the room.
I always choose to sit in the sand on the ground. It’s cool to the touch and so soft. The room is so relaxing on it’s own.

You can book the room for private events, or book a class in the room off their calendar. They host group sessions of sound healing, meditations and even medium readings. My friend, is really into natural healing type modalities. So this was right up her alley.
As you sit or lay in the soft, fine, cool salt music plays in the background. I drift off into a state of relaxation, and try to stop my mind from spinning. Thoughts of chores, work and family swirl through my head as I try to gently release them.
Meditation is something you definitely have to practice, because at first your mind will be filled with thoughts. Over time you will get better at gently pushing the thoughts aside and clearing your mind.

If you are interested in learning more about incorporating meditation into your daily life check out this book by Vietnamese monk, Thich Nhat Hanh. He has some really profound books. I liked this one because you can incorporate meditative practices into your daily life. Like when cleaning, or even walking. He has such a gentle and lovely approach to life, it’s hard not to take something from this book.
Soon our time was up, and our sound healing session was done. I stood up feeling much calmer and more relaxed. Outside the cave, are cubbies to keep your belongings and shoes. So we packed up and headed upstairs to check out the stones, crystals, candles and jewelery.
Afterwards, we were feeling pretty hungry. So I decided to take my girlfriend to a new restaurant that opened up across the street. Ty’s Fish and Chips in Sandy, has the best crave worthy crab balls. Each order comes with 4 huge crab balls, stuffed with a ton of crab and coated in panko then deep fried.
The chef was born in Vietnam and trained with Japanese sushi masters, and it shows! He was also one of the co-founders of the popular Chopfuku restaurant in SLC. Other surefire bets here are the Fish and Chips. There are 5 different dipping sauces to choose from, and I truly like them all. My favorite is the mango curry or the lemon sweet chili sauce. This is a MUST TRY when you are in the Sandy area.
So that concludes my girls day out adventure. We had a great time, and wound up feeling uplifted.
Thanks for reading, much love
Becky
