Have you ever been on a flight and seen something really rude? We have all heard horror stories in the news about passengers getting drunk and violent with flight attendants or other passengers.
Keep on reading to find out the top things NOT to do on your next flight
- To Recline or Not to Recline:
- On a recent survey 77 % of respondants said it’s rude to recline your seat on the plane.
- 23% said they will politely ask the person behind them before reclining the seat.
My advice on this is to NOT recline your seat. Unless you are in first class and there is sufficient room to recline and not disturb the person behind you. The airlines keep making seating areas smaller and smaller, and we all have a lot less room these days. If you must recline, politely ask the person behind you if they mind.
2. Middle Seat Gets the Armrests:
Have you ever been stuck in the middle seat and had to hold both your arms inside your seat because the people on either side of you have taken both armrests? It’s not comfortable in the middle seat, so share the middle armrest with the middle seat. Better yet, let the middle seat have that armrest and use the just one arm rest.
3. Barefoot bandits:
It’s an unspoken rule that you shouldn’t remove your shoes on the plane. It’s gross (I’m looking at that person, walking to the airplane bathroom in barefeet) plus your feet could be smelly and disrupt your seatmates. Leave the shoes on. Wear comfortable shoes on the plane, no heels or flip flops.
4. Boarding before your time:
Just don’t do this. We are all waiting to board the plane, going early before your time disrupts the flow of passengers getting on the plane. We are all going to get on the plane, just wait your turn
5. Wait your turn when disembarking the plane:
Nothing is more frustrating than people who were sitting behind you crowding into the aisles in front of you. What is it about flying that brings out the worst manners in people? The only exception to this, is if you have a connecting flight to catch and are running late….this is almost always announced by the flight attendants, who will allow those passengers to get off first. Otherwise wait your turn.
6. Kicking/Bumping/Shoving the seat in front of you.
I don’t know why this even happens. Don’t kick the seat in front of you, and if it happens on accident just apologize politely and try not to do it again.
7. Walking in the aisle during drink service:
The flight attendants have a large cart and are trying to serve all the passengers in a certain time period. If you find yourself stuck in the aisle behind the flight attendants, just patiently wait until they have moved, don’t expect them to move for you.
8. Overhead bin hogs:
My advice is to pack everything you need on the flight into your personal item bag, see my post here
Ever boarded a plane last and had no where to put your carry on bag because someone has placed their hat and coat in the overhead bin? It isn’t fun, asking around to find out who it belongs to, to ask if you can move it to fit in your bag. So here is my tip, fold up your coat and put it under the seat in front of you, or better yet put it in your bag before boarding the plane. Overhead space is at a premium. On this note, place your bag in the overhead bin in such a way that the most amount of bags will be able to fit into it.
9. Talking loudly or watching a movie without headphones:
A lot of people try to sleep on flights for a myriad of reasons, talking loudly or watching a movie without headphones is disruptive. We are all sharing a small space.
Those are the top things that I see people doing on every flight, and are the top things that drive other passengers nuts.
let me know in the comments what things drive you nuts on flights in particular, I would love to hear
