Salt Lake City: Unforgettable Date Night Ideas 2025

Where do you go for a date in Salt Lake City? Salt Lake City, Utah has a reputation. Good or bad, it is sometimes known for being less than exciting. But I’m here to give you some ideas for a fun, and engaging date night.

My significant other and I have been together for almost 14 years, and sometimes life can get a bit routine. We get so caught up in life’s chores that we often forget to have fun.

This is where date night comes in. Have you ever heard the advice to “Date your Spouse”? This is an idea that by dating (going on intentional dates together) your spouse you create and help maintain a strong connection. It’s been shown to increase romance, improve communication, and create lasting bonds.

So in the spirit of dating, I have rounded up some great date night ideas in the Salt Lake area. Read on,

Smash it Rage Rooms: Want to get out some excess rage? How about going to a Smash Room. The idea behind this is that you pay to smash different things, in a controlled safe environment. Grab a box and fill it with breakables of your choice. The box gets weighed and you pay by weight. Sounds kinda fun, doesn’t it? With locations in Salt Lake, Ogden and Orem. Reservations can be made at their website linked above.

Bonsai Bai Me: Ever wanted to learn how to grow and maintain your very own bonsai tree? Bonsai is the art of guiding and shaping a small tree as it grows. It started in China was made into an art form by the Japanese. At Bonsai Bai Me, in Pleasant Grove, you can take a bonsai class. They will teach you how to plant, trim and decorate your own tree to take home. How fun is that? You can take home and nurture a tree while nurturing your love. I imagine this would also be a super fun girl’s night out idea.

Axe Throwing: There are several axe throwing businesses located in the Salt Lake valley. Why not try your hand at throwing axes at painted wooden targets? Located in the Sandy area Rocky Mountain Axe throwing is a unique date night idea. Don’t worry they go over safety before you start throwing sharp axes around. Reservations can be made online. They can accomodate up to 40 people at a time, so planning a group date just got easier.

Cooking Classes: Why not take a cooking class together? It is a fun way to work together to create something delicious that you can eat when you are done. My favorite local cooking classes are offered by Harmons Grocery. Check out their website for locations and a full calendar of class offerings. They offer classes specifically geared towards dates and couples. Some classes even serve wine or cocktails tailored to the menu. Other local options for cooking classes include the fancy retailer Sur La Table.

Museums: So far I’ve listed pretty interactive date ideas. What if you are feeling a bit more mellow? Why not check out a local museum. My favorites for dates include The Leonardo, downtown. Currently they have an AI exhibit. But check their website for the most current and up to date exhibit info. Kole and I went here on a date once and spent an hour building lego structures. We wound up having such a good time! Another good local museum is The Natural History Museum of Utah. They have a pretty cool dinosaur exhibit year round as well as other exhibits. Again check out their website for the most current info.

Paint Night: Feeling crafty? Why not have a paint night? Kole and I love to do this at home. We buy canvas’s at the local Hobby Lobby, paints and brushes too. Then we turn on a Bob Ross painting video on YouTube and paint along. So much fun! If you don’t want to invest in all the supplies (it helps if you do this a lot) you can reserve a paint night out on the town. Check out Painting With a Twist in Murray, across the street from the Fashion Place Mall. They have daytime and nighttime classes. I have done this for a girls night out, and for a fun bachelorette party as well. You get to keep your creation at the end of the night.

Comedy Clubs: How about getting out for a good laugh? I don’t know about you but this world is crazy and we all could use a dose of comedy to lighten it up every now and again. My favorite comedy club in SLC is definitely Wise Guys, downtown. They have great comedians featured and have hosted some famous names. They serve food and alcohol (if you like an adult beverage, I don’t, but Kole does) the food is definitely not why you go but they do have a varied assortment of bar type food available for purchase before the show starts.

Dance: Hear me out. Have you ever wanted to take a line dancing class? Why not head to The Westerner Bar for their free line dancing class, held early @ 7pm on Fridays and Saturdays before the bar gets hopping. You don’t have to drink, and all bars in Utah are non-smoking. So even if you don’t drink you can come here (21+yrs and up only… this is a bar) and take a line dance lesson. Stay afterwards for country music, more line dancing and even a full menu of food. This is a great place for a bachelorette party. In fact years ago I had my bachelorette party here. (to my first husband…long since divorced!)

I hope I have inspired you to get out and go on a date.

send me a comment or message and let me know what your favorite date night spots are.
